Part one .. age 0 to 11 :
January 24, 1982 the day my mother gave birth to me, I was her first Boy. I was born in Dhahran City at Aramco Hospital, my Father named me “Bayat” after my family’s name. Some people didn’t like it “Specially my mom, and her father!” but it’s the name everybody’s calling me with until now. Well.. I can’t start talking about my life since then! simply I can’t remember. So I decided to begin with kindergarten, I was 4 years old when my mom Rolled me there, people was calling it “al sho’oon” but the sign says “Ro’9at al A6fal !!! “ it doesn’t matter anyway!!
I stayed there for one year only. My class name was “No3man”. I can’t remember my teacher’s name, but my mom do!
I didn’t make any friends there, but I remember “Mazen 3bd el Jabbar” and “Kamal 9ooli” , I wasn’t their friend but I knew the names! The reason I mentioned them is that we went to the same school and they where famous!
One year later and I was in school. My uncle “Mohammad-Ali (my mother’s brother)” registered me at “Al- Sha6e2 elementary school”, it’s a government school built by Aramco, it was right next to my house.
I can’t forget my first day there. I came late with “I can’t remember if it was my father or my uncle!” but when I entered the class that I was registered in. it was Fully Loaded with kids. I started to look for somebody I know. Actually my cousin “Ahmed” was in the same class (It was arranged!) so I set with him, on the same chair! (Aramco is generous, they provided the school with large chairs, and we where small!), our teacher’s name was “Abdullah Al Thonayan” he was a great teacher.
The same day In the break (Fos7a), we saw my old cousin “Maytham” (Ahmed’s brother), I think he was in 3rd or 4th grade then. So he gave me a tour through the school. “Ahmed went to school 1 year before me as a listener”. So It was new only for me, and it was something really different! I mean seeing all these kids running around, and I wasn’t accustomed with such a variety of people!!
Anyhow, I survived without meeting any new friends in that year.
My second year in school was quit different, I don’t remember that year very much so, and I’ll just skip it, all I remember is our trip to Europe in that summer, we went to France, Holland, Austria and Switzerland, it was a great trip.
Third grade, Now who was there. How can I forget,”3amer al Jame3” and My cousin “Mohammad Al Bayat”, I think it was the first time we meet, but we became very close friends. He used to visit me every night, well I couldn’t go to his house, but he was with me all the time. But after that year this guy became an old page of my life. I didn’t even see him later on!
1991 fourth grade was interesting, I became very popular that year, I had many friends of different kinds! (Don’t ask me “What do I mean by that!”) . I was setting next my cousin Ahmed Again while 3amer was setting behind us next to “Ahmed Al Sinan” (I’m not sure about that, but Ahmed Al Sinan was there), “Basil Nasr Allah” my best friend was there too, it was our first meeting, “Husain Al Khonazy ( Jamjoom )” and many other guys that I’ve known. I used to hang out with my cousin Ahmed and 3amer and a guy called “Maytham Al Sharra7” this guy had epilepsy. But I don’t know, we used to play with my skating shoes everyday after school!
In the same year, My older sister got engaged, with who? With Ahmed Al Sinan Uncle! What a coincidence, so me and Ahmed became closer. And that was the beginning of our friendship.
I must mention “Ra3d”, that guy used to set at the back of the class, I think he was 3 years older than us!! But he was interesting !! He was very talented in drawing, and he also do many tricks, like the needle trick “stick the needle into his head and get it out of his hand!” He fooled our Egyptian teacher!! Sometimes when I get bored, I go set in back and see what’s he doing just for fun.
That year was full of tragedies one of them was when “Husain (Jamjoom) “ burned his face while trying to light the oven. He’s ok now, but it was a shock to us.
The same year, who can forget THE GULF WAR, Actually I enjoyed it!
I mean the vacation, and the masks, the safety rules they used to teach us in school in case of emergencies. Our gathering at home.. for me , It was Fun!! Thank god, no rockets where heading to us!
Now that’s all I can tell you about that year, but that was just a few things of my adventurous!
Fifth year was 140 degrees change! 3 new guys and a totally different life. I met “Ali Al Juzayer”, Ali was something else, smart, talented “he had a great hand writing and he was the best in poems”, and he had a strong personality. We became close friends, and so he introduced me to his friends, “Mohammad Al Zayer” and “Khalid Al Jamed”, talking about Khalid, I can write a book on this guy, but I’ll just shorten it by describing him as A crazy genius! I don’t mean by crazy that he walks around the street wearing nothing but his briefs! But he was hard to explain, although everybody likes him. He was great.
This year I went out to a friend’s house for the first time in my life, that’s when Ali gathered us “me and Moh.” to work on a sign for our Arabic teacher. This year was interesting too, and full of many events. But to save time, the summery is that Khalid became my best friend then.
Sixth grade, the year 1993, one of my favorite years in school, in fact, it might be the best.
It was the start of my friendship with Basil.
Most of my best friends then, where in that class. My cousin Ahmed, 3amer, Khalid and later Basil.
One important piece of information is has to be mentioned here, Khalid’s Desk!
We used to have White desks made of pressed wood, but when Khalid first came to the school, he suddenly set on a dark brown one. It’s one of the old desks I think. So he kept it with him till Sixth grade, can you imagine that! He kept it for 6 years! During his last years with it, he Dig a hole into it from its surface to the inner part using a compass. He used it for drinking during the class!! So everybody else started to dig there own hole!
Basil was the first student, since his first year in school, so everybody loved him, so as Khalid. Being with those 2 guys gave me gave me the opportunity to enhance my relations with the teachers, I mean teachers loved me too, but the three of us together just makes it better.
Well, we had the possessions!! Khalid was the director of (al Etha3a ) and we where his assistance’s, so we used the stage as a hideout !
We used to sneak out the classes and hide in the stage, of course no body where allowed to enter there, but we used to leave the back door open so we could sneak in. the stage was so large, we could do anything, the Headmaster’s room was far way from there. So we took advantage of that.
We where maximum 4, me , Khalid, my cousin Ahmed, 3amer and Basil. Basil didn’t join us very often, he was more restricted, but he joined us a lot. Me and Khalid almost never attend religion classes! And some other classes as well.
Inside that stage, we played many games, Khalid brought many useful stuff, and he was as I said a crazy genius!
We used to play with a heavy ball, we called it Nofai5a ! “it appears in my pictures with Basil” .. I can’t forget the day when it went of the stage accidentally during the morning queue !! Khalid was rapping it with a tall chain, and he was moving it in a circular motion, so it went off hit the door and got out on the stage!!
Moving our next favorite game, playing with “HayaSaboora”!!
HayaSaboora was an old green board with wheels, so two of us used to climb it, and the other one or two pushes fast and hit whatever in its way!
That was Fun..
I can’t actually count the funny things we used to do, Inside and out side the school, I really enjoyed that year.
In that summer me and my family went to Austria and Germany for Vacation, and when we got back, I bought the legendary Sega Mega Drive. I’m not gonna talk about every tiny thing, but The Mega Drive was a very important stage in my life!
At the end of this year, my relationship with Basil started to grow, that’s how I knew the Great Hameedo, “Ahmad Al Qatary” he was Basil’s cousin, and his best friend.
Now I’m done with elementary school, moving to another stage (Intermediate school) I was 11 when I went to seventh grade, it’s still childhood for me.
This year was a continuous part of the year before, but things started to change during this year. My relationship with Khalid started to fallback. And it was the opposite with me and Basil, we went to the same class, only the two of us, we made new friends, and we became best friends.
At the end of that year, our relationship with Khalid became weaker and weaker, although we’re still friends..
That year Khalid met a new friend, “Fadi Al Mobarak” they became very close friend since then “I think!”.
And that was the beginning of a new stage of my life,,

Part 2 .. ager 12 to 17:
My next stage begins in 8th grade, I was 13 then, and that class was crazy, I knew many people there .. the closest to were, Beeso “ my best friend”, 3ala2 Al Thani “who got close to me in 7th grade”, Fadi “we met in 7th grade, he was Khalid’s best friend and so we became friends”, Husain Sanad “whom I met also in 7th grade, we were the staff of the school library and he met us there!” , My cousin Ahmed, 3ala2 All Thani “we got close in 7th grade although I knew him since elementary school”, Husain al Khonaizy(Jamjoom), and some others, there we formed a new shella!!! Fadil El Showaikh, Mohammed Kalala has joined us ..
That class (Thani Jeem ‘2-C’) was Really crazy, it was the worst class in the hole school (Ethically!!!) at the same time, it had the best student (Basil) !!! DuuuH..
Who can forget Zaki Sanad “Hosain’s cousin”, and Moneer Al 3omran “specially you Basil ;)” .. now that class was really fun, specially with Maysara and Waleed 6a3eema (Fadi’s mate!! )…they were both Egyptians, but together they create Twix !!! Maysara was black, and 6a3eema was extra white!!! But they were fun.. ((Ta7t Ta7t B, Fo2 Fo2 C, Yamin Yasaye A !!!))) ha ha …
our shella (Me, Basil, Sanad, 3ala2, Fadil, Fadi and Kalala) used to go to Husain’s Sanad Farm, his father has a wonderful farm which gathered us for more than 6 years.. we had great memories there.. and It was really fun..
beyond the shella, I had always chosen one or two close friends, this year Fadil El Showaikh became very close to me.. and so is Basil, of course because since 7th grade he became my best friend, and he is until now, and I hope forever..
Fadil was something new!! His father was Bahrainy, and he was “his father of course” was married to 4 women.. and he had like 24 less or more sons and daughters “I don’t want to say children!!”, Fadil was 17 or 18 or maybe 19 !!! but he looks like 15.. I don’t wanna talk about him too much, cause he caused me many troubles,, I respected him as a friend, and so he did but, you know,. He’s different. . that year Fadil failed,, and
when we moved to the our next year.
Most guys who where in (Thani jeem) where sent to (Thaleth jeem!!) almost the same class.. except I wasn’t there!!
One of the teachers (Hasan Al Kawway) took me to his class! (Thaleth Ba2 ‘3-B’) Back to my old friends, Ali Juzaiyer, Ahmed Al Sinan and 3amer Al Jame3.. Ali, Ahmed and Ra2ed al Duhaileb were friends then, and I was a very close friend to Ali, So I joined there Shella, and so my buddy Basil.. me , Fadil , Sanad , Fadi and khalid where still friends too of course,, but you can say that Sanad, Fadi and Khalid had their own activities and interests (computers), I was looking for more friends to hang out with..
That year was unbelievable ! I just noticed that, Ali , Ahmed and Ra2ed was a shella, Me, Basil and Fadil was another, Fadi , Sanad and Khalid another shella and I was between them all..
Hey Hameedo was there also , but only in weekends cause he was one year ahead of us.. he also had a shella which I don’t know!
Anyhow, a stranger came into our school that year, he was in 8th grade, his name was (Mohammed All Saif) he lived in Jubail before and now his family moved back to Qatif.. I don’t know why, but everybody in the school was interested in that kid!! What happened is , they put him in (Thani jeem) with Fadil, Fadil was still a close friend to me,, Moh. All Saif became Fadil’s friend .. and he became my friend too..
Now that was a change in our group.. me, Ali, Ahmed Al Sinan, Fadil , Basil, Moh. All Saif and Ra’ed Duhaileb began to hang out with each other, and that’s where Wednesday became my favorite day of the week, Ali used to cherish that day, and as always , Ali’s mind was ahead of his age, maybe he wasn’t smarter than basil or even me, but he thinks older! So he used to speak philosophy about how should Wednesday be important to us.. oooo we argued too much about many things..
The same year, I don’t really remember what happened but, my and Fadil no longer became friends.. and our group has two new important members (Ali Ismile) and ( Bader Jawad) ..
Me, Basil, Ali Juzair, Ahmed al Sinan, Ra’ed, Ali Ismile and Bader Jawad .. this was the latest update to my shella!!!!!!! Along with Sanad, Fadi, and sometimes Khalid.. (when we go to the farm) but Sand was really close to us, Me and Basil.. and we loved him then..
we had great memories together.. and no one can forget (lelat El Na9fa) and Som3an'a Caprice!!
next, High school … oooohh .. what a stage..
our shella split to two schools then to 3!!
Hamdoo el Sinan went to (Al Aqsa secondary school), (me, Basil, Som3an, Juzaya, Bared, Ra’ed, and Sanad went to “Qatif secondary school”) , Fadi, Khalid, 3ala2 All Thani went to (Dar al Hikma School)..
Me and Basil were much more closer than ever before, and so every year we become better friends, that’s what made our friendship that close, every group we get in, our relation grows, and so our trust of each other…
We couldn’t stand it in Qatif School, it was like a prison!! I mean the building, we survived one week but then they moved us to another building, (Enb Katheer intermediate school) because Qatif school was crowded, and they sent us there as late shift students, we go in the afternoon !!
We spend one day there.. the next day, me and Basil were rolled in (Dar al Hikma school) it was a rented house, but hey,, better than that shit we were living in!
The same day everybody were shocked, because they didn’t know about our moving and suddenly we weren’t there..
Sanad also moved with us I think one week after, and then we started a new story..
Elzebda, we ended high school with a new group:
(Bayat , Basil , Basil Bayat Hamdi she7amat Fat7i.. (3fowan .. that was a joke!!)..
(Me, Basil, Sanad, Fadi, Hameedo, 3ala2, My cousin Ahmed, Younis Salaa6 “we met in 11th grade and he was a very loud boy!”)
We had unlimited amount of fun in high school, especially in our last year, wow WOOW.. the Carasida (the Christmas).. the farm ,, I can’t forget (El7arbiah ) ( Crown Abu Hameedo) , Fadi’s Miebach, and Basil’s Caprice..
Abdul Qader ( Gadroo ) , el kashatat to Aramco Beach, and Half moon..
Tomb Raider’s day, ( as Sanad called it Zelda’s Day!) ..
The PE class with Hani Al Rabee3, Essoviety (7alqoom) !! ( our teacher he was from the soviet !) ..
The whole school staff was great , most of them where funny, and the others were very special , they became our friends, as a matter of a fact, Esam Al Shamasi , was the best teacher, and so we become like friends of his.. till now..
I can’t forget 3omar Simble, Mohammad Ali, Abu Khalid, Mo3ath el Fadli, Ja3far Rob7, 3eesa Al ‘9amen, Rashwaan, Mo3tamed, Fat7I Jorais and also Al Mosmari (how can we forget his filthy smell.. EeEeeeuuu !) ..
Damn it was fun… we loved school these days, actually I miss it..
But like anything in this world.. these happy days ended with our graduation ..
And that’s where my true life start….
The journey to the unknown as I should call it.. the beginning to a new and more opened life for me..
To be continued .. ;)
